CAPITAL CITY PICKLEBALL - DOWNTOWN (WATERLOO)
About
Mohammad Khan, Waterloo Pickleball organizer, had a prime Austin location—skyline views near Zilker Park—but the surface was a nightmare. The facility initially used roll-out PVC mats that were 300 pounds each and constantly blew over in the wind. The seams ripped, edges curled, and players complained online about safety concerns. Sport Court of Austin installed a demo court with SportGame PB modular surface alongside the old mats. Players overwhelmingly preferred the new surface, with all paddles stacked on the Sport Court side within weeks. The facility now features custom courts including a Texas flag and "I Love Pickleball So Much" mural tribute. Within two months of switching surfaces, the facility eliminated safety hazards, drastically reduced maintenance (no more hours spent squeegeeing water), and created a better community experience. Players now say "Wow. Where am I?" when arriving at the rooftop courts, which are described as bright, safe, and conducive to fun rather than fighting the surface.
