About
Brooks (Gwendolyn) Park is a 2.56-acre public park located in Chicago's Kenwood community at 4542 S. Greenwood Ave. Originally known as Hyacinth Park, it was renamed in 2004 to honor Gwendolyn Brooks, one of Chicago's most acclaimed poets and the first African American to win a Pulitzer Prize. The park features outdoor pickleball courts, a renovated playground (updated in Fall 2013 as part of the Chicago Plays! program), a water spray feature, and a bust honoring the park's namesake. The park is open daily from 6:00 am to 9:00 pm and serves as a popular recreational spot for children and families. While no structured programming occurs at Brooks Park itself, the Chicago Park District directs visitors to nearby Kennicott Park for organized programs. The facility is supervised by Park Supervisor Kisha Taylor.
