On Wednesday, the city celebrated the groundbreaking of its new Ventana Sports Courts, located at 30 Ventana Drive directly across from Chumash Park. The new complex will add a tennis court, two pickleball courts and a parking lot to the city's register of recreation spots. They replace the former tennis and basketball courts on Bello Street and Wadsworth Avenue that were displaced to make way for the city's ongoing $50 million Public Safety Facility project. The $2.3 million project also includes the addition of a new pedestrian crosswalk on Ventana Drive to create a safer route between the two sites. "The new courts are designed to expand access to some of the community's fastest-growing sports while also complementing the existing amenities at Chumash Park." Mayor Ed Waage stated, "This project will provide another great recreational amenity for our community and reflects our commitment to investing in neighborhood parks and active lifestyles. The addition of these courts and the new crosswalk will create a safe and welcoming space for residents to gather, stay active and enjoy everything our parks system has to offer."
